December 4, 1906: Wes Young

Today we have an article from the Chicago Daily Tribune (Chicago, Illinois) dated December 6, 1906:

Negro Who Killed Chicago Man in Mississippi Captured by Posse and Summarily Hanged.

Friends of A. F. Middagh, 99 East Seventy-seventh street, who was shot and killed by Wes Young, a negro, at Valley Park, Miss., last Sunday, have avenged his death. According to information received here yesterday Young was captured by a posse of men twenty-two miles from Vicksburg on Tuesday and lynched.

Dr. J. C. Lederer of Vicksburg, who arrived here with the body of Mr. Middagh on Tuesday evening, received a telegram from W. G. Grubbs of Valley Park, telling briefly of the lynching.

The funeral of Mr. Middagh will be held from the late residence in Windsor Park on Saturday afternoon with burial at Oakwoods. A son H, M, Middagh of St. Louis, arrived for the funeral, and another son will come from Jerome, Ariz., Friday.

Thank you for joining me and as always, I hope I leave you with something to ponder.
