July 12, 1900: White Man

The following comes from the Alexandria Gazette (Alexandria, Virginia) dated July 13, 1900:

Probably Lynched.

CHATTANOOGA,Tenn., July 13.—The body of a white man was found yesterday afternoon a few miles south of Cleveland, Tenn.  Indications were that the man had been hanged.  There was a rope around his neck and death appeared to have resulted from strangulation.  There is no clue to his identity.  The coroner's jury returned a verdict of murder at the hands of unknown persons.
