August 1917: Dan and Jerry Rout

Today we learn about a lynching in Louisiana through the pages of the Haskell news (Haskell, Oklahoma) dated August 9, 1917:

Louisiana Negroes Lynched.

Amite, La.—Dan and Jerry rout, brothers, negroes, who were confined in the Tangipahoa parish jail charged with murdering Simeon Bennett, a white man, were taken from their cells by a mob and lynched.

Thank you for joining me and as always, I hope I leave you with something to ponder.
