September 2, 1878: Mike Gron/George Green

Today I am posting two newspaper articles that appear to be about the same lynching, but some pertinent details are not the same, namely the name of the lynched.  The first article was published September 2, 1878 in the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern (Oshkosh, Wisconsin):

NEGRO LYNCHED.

Baltimore, Sept. 2.—On Tuesday last Mike Gron, colored, aged 35, committed an assault on a young white woman in Prince George county. The same day he was lodged in jail. Early this a. m. about 25 men took Gron from jail and hanged him to a tree.

The second article appears in the Lawrence Daily Journal (Lawrence, Kansas) on September 3, 1878:

Lynched.

Baltimore, Sept. 2.—Monday last, George Green, colored, aged 25, committed an assault on a young white woman in Prince George county. The same day he was lodged in jail. Early this forenoon about 25 men took Green from the jail and hanged him to a tree.
