March 18, 1895: Harriet Talley

Today's lynching was gleaned from the pages of the Fort Scott Weekly Monitor (Fort Scott, Kansas) dated March 23, 1895:

A NEGRO WOMAN LYNCHED.

Tennesseeans [sic] Hang Harriet Talley for Setting Fire to a House.

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn., March 20.—Harriet Talley, colored, was hanged night before last by a mob near Petersburg. She was suspected of burning the dwelling of Mr. Marshall, near here, a few months ago.

Thank you for joining me and as always, I hope I leave you with something to ponder.
