March, 1895: Unknown Negro

The Inter Ocean (Chicago, Illinois) reports a Mississippi lynching in its March 31, 1895 edition:

A NEGRO was lynched at Jackson, Miss., for trying to steal a ride in a wagon containing a white picnic party. The whites  of Mississippi are getting quite as particular as they were before the war. the negroes will have to take to the woods and the fields and leave public roads to the white people if they want to live in that State.

Thank you for joining me and as always, i hope i leave you with something to ponder.
